Present Perfect (Part 1)

 

Use

1. For an action that happened at an unstated past time and is connected to the present (especially with the adverbs 'just', 'already', 'yet', 'so far'.

 Oops, I've knocked my coffee over.

2. For an action that happened within an unfinished period of time (including result-oriented actions) (also with 'ever', 'never', 'this morning', 'today').

Hey Rob, have you seen Finn today?

3. For an action that started in the past and continues up to the present (for non-continuous verbs) ( also with 'how long', 'for', 'since').

 You have been married for two years now, and you have no children.

 Exercise 1

 Choose among the following verbs and put them in the Present Perfect statement, question or negation:

Do, eat (2), be, finish, have (2), leave, give, study, decide

1 I overslept and then the bus was late and, uh, it just .....…............... a good day so far!

Already: before now or before a particular time in the past.

‘Lunch?’ ‘No thanks, I've already eaten.’


Just: used to say that you/somebody did something very recently.

I've just heard the news.

Yet: ALWAYS IN NEGATIVES OR QUESTIONS used for talking or asking about something that has not happened at a

particular time but will probably happen in the. future.

I haven’t seen him yet. Have you had your lunch yet?

 

Use the following verbs in the Present Perfect:

Travel, do, buy, fascinate, learn, figure out.
